Executive Director, NuLawLab
Dan Jackson directs the NuLawLab at Northeastern University School of Law, an interdisciplinary innovation laboratory working to merge creative arts and law to create new models of legal empowerment. Dan is a 1997 graduate of Northeastern Law and a 1990 graduate of Northwestern University. Following a postgraduate clerkship with The Hon. Hugh H. Bownes at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, Dan worked for 13 years with the law firm of Bingham McCutchen, ultimately serving as the firm’s director of attorney development after practicing in the employment law group. Prior to law school, Dan worked as a designer for theater. He continues to do so, most recently with the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival and The Provincetown Theater.
Creative Director, NuLawLab
Jules Rochielle Sievert is the Creative Director at NuLawLab at Northeastern University School of Law. Recently a Creative Placemaking Policy Fellow at Arizona State University through the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. Jules also works In New York as an Artistic Coordinator with More Art’s Engaging Artists Fellowship and Residency program. They providing coaching to the 2020 Art Fellows at Now and There in Boston, Ma. Their most recent artist residencies have been with Stroom Den Haag, the Center for Artistic Activism at Art Action Academy at the Queens Museum, with the Mayor’s Office of Veterans’ Affairs and Department of Cultural Affairs in New York, Women With Wings Artists Residency in Boulder, Colorado, and with California State Fullerton’s Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana. Jules’s scholarship has been published in the Journal of Curriculum and Pedagogy, and in Engaging Publics/Public Engagements published by Auckland Art Gallery & Auckland University of Technology.

Sherman Cultural Strategies is a Boston-based consulting firm that works locally and nationally at the intersection of community development, the arts, and social justice. We work with values-driven partners in the philanthropic, non-profit, and government sectors on strategy, research, writing, and facilitation. Our current and past partners include the Barr Foundation, the Seattle Housing Authority, Northeastern University NuLawLab, NeighborWorks America, the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and the City of Boston.
Danya Sherman, Director, is currently a Senior Consultant on the Research Strategies team at ArtPlace America, where she teaches courses on creative community development and designs field building activities aimed at integrating the arts into equitable community development. Previously she founded and directed the Department of Public Programs & Community Engagement at Friends of the High Line and co-founded the MIT Case Study Initiative. Her writing has been published in Next City, Shelterforce, and by Rutgers University Press. She has addressed audiences at Providence Athenaeum, the Boston Society of Architects, the New School, Drexel University, and elsewhere on equitable urban development, community engagement, public space, and the cultural dimensions of public transit. Danya holds a Master’s in City Planning from MIT and a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University (CT).
